Overview

As an apprentice you will have a job and earn a wage whilst building up knowledge and skills within the meat and poultry industry. This apprenticeship is made up of a Butcher Apprenticeship Standard that comprises of Food Safety, Health and Safety in the Food Supply Chain Business, Knife Skills for Food Processing, Functional Skills (English and Maths) and Proficiency in Meat and Poultry Industry Skills.

Alternatively, you may be directed to study a framework of qualifications made up of a Certificate in Proficiency in Meat and Poultry Skills, Functional Skills (English and Maths), Employee Rights and Responsibilities, and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS).

Entry requirements

You must have GCSE English and Maths at grade E or 3 or equivalent. You must also pass an initial assessment, secure work experience as an apprentice and have one satisfactory reference.
