Overview
This course is an engineering taster programme and is the perfect option for any student wishing to take their very first steps into engineering. The course covers the fundamental skills and knowledge common to all engineering practices, including health and safety requirements and communicating engineering information. The course is very flexible and offers you the chance to learn a wide range of engineering skills.

Units you may study include:
An introduction to the engineering world
Manual metal arc welding and sheet metal fabrication
Using lathes for turning operations
Milling and cutting machines
Making components using hand tools and fitting techniques
Wiring and testing electrical equipment and circuits
Producing electrical components using hand fitting techniques

70% Assessment - Coursework
30% Assessment - Exam
Entry requirements
Ideally at least 4 GCSEs or an Entry Level 3 qualification, but this is subject to discussion at your interview. If you haven't already achieved a GCSE grade 5 or grade C in English or Maths, then you will study either GCSE or Functional Skills English or Maths alongside your other qualifications.
