Keeping Fit

There are lots of ways to improve your fitness without having to join a gym.

What are the benefits of getting fit?

Keeping fit will make sure that your joints and body organs are kept in good working order. Exercise can keep your weight at a healthy level and you’ll also feel an increase in your energy levels.

How often should I exercise?

If you’re under 18, you should try to do 60 minutes exercise each day. This can be in chunks of 10 to 15 minutes.

If you’re over 18, aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise at least five days per week.

How can I get fit?

Getting fit isn’t all about gyms, there are many other ways of exercising and some of them are free.

  • Cycling or walking to school, college or work
  • Running around the block a few times a week
  • Checking out local facilities in places such as parks, for example tennis  courts and football pitches which are often free

Sports teams

Playing team sports such as cricket, football, hockey, netball, rugby is great exercise but often more enjoyable, if you’re with a group of friends.

The internet is a good way of finding out about teams in your local area.
