Humber Maritime College
Cadets at the Humber Maritime College will be trained to work in the Merchant Navy. The Merchant Navy is the international commercial shipping industry transporting cargo and people around the world. Once trained the cadets will have the chance to work for companies using cargo ships, tankers, cruise liners, passenger vessels as well as offshore support vessels. Cadets will train to be either Engineering Officers and Navigation Deck Officers.
Working at sea can be adventurous and challenging. It isn't a nine-to-five career so to work in the industry cadets should be motivated as well as skilled. As well as jobs at sea there will be opportunities for onshore engineers in the industry.
The Humber Maritime College will provide all the knowledge and experience needed to be ready for a career in the Merchant Navy. Our applied learning approach will use classroom, simulator and blended learning activities to develop the skills needed for the merchant Navy. Cadets will be training using the faciltiies at the Grimsby Institute and Modal training.
As part of the TEC Partnership which includes the Grimsby Institute and Modal Training cadets will have access to a wide range of resources. Cadets will stay in hall of residence during their first year and can use the sports faclities, the learning resource centre at the Grimsby Institute as well as a range of social and welfare facilities during their training.
What makes us different?
The Humber Maritime College is the newest Merchant Navy Training Board and Maritime and Coastguard Agency approved maritime college. We work with training management companies to provide professional training for engineers and navigators for the Merchant Navy. The management companies work with the shipping lines who provide sponsorship for the cadets who will receive financial support whilst they are training.
Cadetships are fully sponsored by employers and cadets will gain a university level qualificaiton without the worry of fees. Applications are to be made to the training management companies who process applications.
